TESTIMONIALS

What People Say

Hear feedback from our residents and their families.

My partner has been here since the 15th of July. I am very happy with everything and peace of mind knowing he is being cared for 24 hours a day.

If they need me they ring me straight away. Keep up the good work.”

Partner of Resident at Laurel Bank

Ashbourne Care Home is a lovely well-presented care home of which my mother is a resident. The care she receives is very good, lovely choice of food and she is quite happy there. Management and staff are excellent, kind and considerate and I find they are lovely to me too when I visit. I am always informed of developments there regarding Mom needing a nurse, doctor, etc. I wouldn't want my mom to be anywhere else.”

Daughter of Resident at Ashbourne

My mum came into Laurel Bank Care Home, for end of life care, following a period in hospital, from a previous care home.

From the moment she entered Laurel Bank on her 89th birthday when they put banners up and made a cake for her arrival, she received excellent service from caring and nursing staff. As her daughter I was told to think of the home as my extended home as well.

My mum’s time at Laurel Bank was very short, she only lived for a week after her birthday but in that time she was treated with dignity, respect and care. With her passing, the staff treated me the same with care and love. The ethos of care shines through. I can only thank you all from the bottom of my heart, and only wish my mum had come to live at Laurel Bank sooner and also for longer. Many thanks, keep doing what you are doing as it is something really special in care.”

FAQs: Palliative Care Home

Palliative care is medical care focused on relieving pain, stress, or symptoms caused by a chronic illness. While it’s not limited to end-of-life care, often a person with a chronic illness in palliative care is at the final stage of their life. Therefore, palliative care is often focused on providing comfort and pain relief for residents.

Palliative care supports older adults with serious health conditions, including cancer, dementia, and other chronic illnesses. It's not limited to end-of-life situations, but provides comprehensive support throughout challenging health issues.

While both focus on patient comfort, palliative care can be provided at any stage of an illness, alongside curative treatments. Hospice care typically begins when curative treatments are no longer effective and focuses specifically on end-of-life support for terminally ill patients.

Our palliative approach is focused on the resident and their family. We facilitate regular communication between residents and their family members, and provide emotional support and coping strategies to families with loved ones in palliative care. We work alongside families through palliative care to find the best care for their loved ones.

We ensure high-quality palliative care through a personalised approach where we carefully consider the unique needs of each patient. We provide continuous staff training to ensure our specialists have access to the latest tools and knowledge in palliative care.

Our care homes adhere to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, which cover the organisation and delivery of end-of-life care services
